DL Keep Em Bouncin by Pretty Lights
Coachella is on again with it’s usual slew of sunshine, skin and stacked stages. Even though I’m stuck back at home enjoying the cool breeze in San Francsico I can’t help but get a little caught up in the excitement from the twitter-sphere.
Hence an offering from Pretty Lights who shared a stage with Deadmau5 and Benny Benassi on Friday. The production is a bit plastic/glossy compared to much of the ILOVECOPYLEFT offerings but that can’t keep me from loving the skittery mix of glitch’n’arpz Pretty Lights rolled up with a heavy kick-snare to Keep Em Bouncin =)
All of Pretty Lights’ EPs are available for download on their web page with a fixed price of Your Email Address (with your choice to sub to the newsletter or not). Music-for-emails is a trend that makes sense—listeners get free music and artists get one contact closer to their 1000 true fans.
Eskmo is another coachella name and download-savvy artist who’s offering up the stems and samples of his Fine Objects track for the price of your email, but to download the mp3 you have to pay a dollar. Interesting because the usual approach is to offer an mp3 for free and the goodies are what will cost a true fan extra.
Those feeling stingy with their inboxes can always use a tool like guerrillamail to subvert the system, but I’m keen on supporting artists and building a network of music distribution that cuts the cream skimming fat cats.
