It seems we’ve completely skipped spring here at RIT, this weekend the temperature climbed into the 80s. I miss spring already and the leaves haven’t even come out on the trees. Luckily, we have ST (aka Stefan Ternemar, not the rapper) and his EP I’ll Meet You There to keep us in that beautiful spring mindset.
Everything about this track is incredible. ST’s beat and synth programming are top-notch, and the vocals by Henrik J, combined with the guitar by Markus Wasikkaoja, complete the package. It’s understated, but full at the same time. The progression on this track is amazing too, you absolutely need to hear the ending.
Monotonik is the ur-netlabel, one of the first groups to start distributing music over the internet exclusively as .mp3s. It’s a pattern that many, many other groups would soon follow, like Rebound and Language Lab, with countless others following. Monotonik is one of the main reasons I’m writing these posts, and it’s not just because of music like this. Check out their immense back catalog, their multiple sublabels, and their box sets. Have fun.
